We want to give a good account for ourselves, says Bridon Ropes boss Ben Kotey
The two sides contest a London Senior Cup Second Round tie at Eden Park Avenue with the Kent League side smarting from their FA Cup humiliating defeat to Ryman Premier League side Metropolitan Police at the weekend.
Jason Huntley’s side crashed to a 7-1 home defeat, while Bridon Ropes suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Woodstock Park in the Kent Invicta League.
Bridon Ropes are in tenth-place in the Kent Invicta League table with seven points from their opening six games.
Kotey, 45, admitted: “Woodstock has always been a difficult place for us. We’ve never really performed particularly well down there.
“Obviously at the back of everybody’s mind is the Beckenham Town game, but the league is the most important thing.”
Looking ahead to their biggest game of the season, Kotey said: “It is a big game for us. Obviously Beckenham had the FA Cup game on Saturday. The hope is they don’t turn up against us.
“We’ve got to go out there and be at our best to get anything out of the game.
“I want us to give a good account of ourselves. I think we can go down there and perform but obviously Beckenham Town, being a division above us, I assume everybody expects them to be the favourites, but I believe we can go over there and give a good account of ourselves and go out there and try and get a result.”
The winner will travel to Ryman League Division One South side Tooting & Mitcham United in the Third Round of the competition.
Hollands & Blair lost their 100% record when they lost 2-0 at home to Ashford United, who won the game courtesy of goals from Mo Takaloo and a Liam Whiting screamer.
Bearsted reached the Kent Invicta League summit after they trounced Crown Alexandra 11-1 at Honey Lane.
Bridon Ropes welcome fourth-placed Hollands & Blair to Charlton Park Lane next Saturday, before travelling to second-placed Phoenix Sports (22 September) and playing at home to third-placed Ashford United seven days later.
Kotey admitted his side are presently suffering from second-season syndrome after finishing in fourth-place in the inaugural Kent Invicta League campaign last term.
“The start we’ve had hasn’t been the best. We need to find some form,” admitted Kotey.
Kotey is relishing facing the big three title challengers this month.
He said: “I expect those three teams to be there or there abouts at the end of the season so those three games will be a real test for us.
“For me, it’s all about the players’ we’ve got here and if they can fulfil their potential. I think we can give a good account of ourselves.
“Obviously we haven’t got the finances of other clubs. We do a lot of work with the boys and hopefully they can take on board what we’re doing in the training sessions.
“We’ve got quite a lot of young players in the reserves. Hopefully in the next few years they might come through. We’ve got some good young players who want to do well and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves again this season.”
