We want to go as far as we can in the FA Cup, says Darts boss Tony Burman
The Darts played their part in an exciting 2-2 draw against Blue Square Bet South leaders Bromley last weekend – in front of a crowd of 1,834 – and face a side in second place in the Ryman Premier League, in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
Lowestoft romped away with the Ryman League Division One North title last season and are just one point behind Sutton United with six wins and two defeats from their opening eight games.
The Darts are in fourteenth place in the Blue Square Bet South table – one league higher than the Suffolk side – with two wins and four draws from their first nine league games.
Burman, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk said: “Is it a banana skin? Yes, it is, if you go on the league’s, but football’s a funny old game.
“Lowestoft are a good side, they’re doing ok. We know the FA Cup is a great competition to be in and we want to go as far as we can and if we stay as professional as we can, I’m sure things will be ok.
A crowd of nearer 2,000 is expected on Saturday, especially if the fans that watched last weekend’s enthralling Kent derby tell their mates that Princes Park is the place to be to watch exciting football.
“Maybe Lowestoft will bring a few here,” added Burman. “I think they’ll bring a hell of a lot of people.”
Burman appears to have regretted the decision to scrap last season’s successful reserve side and would like to hear from Kent clubs about slotting in some midweek friendly games.
“I think I’ve got a strong enough squad at the moment and it’s difficult trying to keep people happy,” he said.
“I’ve overlooked something with the fixtures which there are not enough games in midweek.
“Last season (in the Ryman Premier League) we seemed to be playing every midweek. That’s something I’ll get to grips with and we’ll probably just through a few friendlies to keep our match fitness up.”
