We will soon climb up the league if we take our chances, says Rusthall boss Paul McDonagh

RUSTHALL boss Paul McDonagh says he is happy that his side have started to take their chances in front of goal.Lydd Town were defeated 4-2 at Jockey Farm yesterday, courtesy of a hat-trick from leading goalscorer John Penny and one from Tom Carlisle, which was their first win in seven outings.
Rusthall are now in the bottom four in the Kent Invicta League table, with a record of two wins and a draw from their nine league games.
“We had the better of the possession and looked like scoring every time we went forward,” said McDonagh, who felt right-winger Sam Odell and striker six-goal Penny, caused their opponents all sorts of problems.
“We have been playing well over the last few weeks and I am happy that we have finally converted some of the numerous chances that we have been creating over the last three or four games.
“In the Woodstock Park league game (when we lost 2-0) we created six or seven clear cut chances in the second half but didn’t convert them.
“The only thing separating us from our opponents has been our finishing. We have been working hard in training and Saturday we finally took our chances.”
McDonagh, who lives in Sevenoaks, has utilised his local contracts to strengthen his squad.
He said: “We have linked up with Tonbridge Angels to give some of their younger players a chance to gain some senior football experience.
“Along with two or three new signings, Tom Carlisle, Brad Large (on loan from Tunbridge Wells), Danny Hall and Frazer Duncan, they have added much needed competition for places.”
Rusthall travel to Charlton to face ninth-placed Bridon Ropes next weekend and McDonagh said: “I am hopeful that we can continue to play well, create chances and put them away. If we do we will soon climb up the league.”
