We worked our socks off against Erith Town, says Sevenoaks Town boss Darren Anslow
Monday 23rd April 2012
SEVENOAKS TOWN boss Darren Anslow was full of praise for his side after the 1-1 draw against Erith Town that ended the visitors hopes of finishing runners-up behind champions Herne Bay in the Kent Hurlimann Football League. They had to play with 10-men for most of the second half after having defender Fraser Cronin sent off seven minutes after the break, having been booked for dissent late in the first half.
Anslow made his feelings known before the game about the Umbro Kent Senior Trophy final defeat against Hollands & Blair at Welling, but said to www.sevenoakstownfc.org: "I was really pleased with them."
"We had a good chat before the game about what I felt about what happened the week before. There were two ways of doing it - I could have come in today and said 'don’t worry about last week, but I pulled no punches with them and told them the truth.
"I think they reacted, and we looked pretty comfortable at 1-0 up. But as normal this season, anything that could go against us has - Fraser gets sent off and it's backs to the wall after that.
"They were desperate to get runners-up spot - big budget - and looking to justify it.
"We have got nothing down here, - I said to them afterwards 'credit where credit's due - I told you what I thought before the game, but you have worked your socks off for me out there - have a stretch - and see you Monday' (against Beckenham)'."
Anslow added: "I am gutted though, and I hope Fraser learns his lesson and says thank you to the rest of the boys.
"I was disappointed with his first yellow - I agree with him it wasn't a foul, but when are they going to learn to not react.
"Fair play though we dug in, Ashley (Bourne) did well in goal, and I thought Jordan Clark's goal was fantastic. We have worked on that movement, he peeled off superbly, and it was a super volley."
