Hythe will no doubt be a tough tie. I’m sure Sam Denly will be wanting a reaction after the result they had against Burgess Hill, says Whitstable Town boss Lloyd Blackman

WHITSTABLE TOWN manager Lloyd Blackman says his side were left frustrated by their opening day draw by Sittingbourne at the weekend.

Sittingbourne took a 27th minute lead through on-loan from Gillingham striker Roman Campbell’s penalty, but Whitstable Town levelled through Tijan Jadama 18 minutes from time to ensure honours were even in the Isthmian League South East Division Kent derby.

“We were disappointed not to walk away with three points on Saturday,” said Blackman.

“Defensively we looked solid and organised, which pleased me as we were able to limit our opponents to record only one shot on target, which was a penalty.

“However, we we’re surprisingly wasteful in front of goal and missed three good opportunities in the first 15 minutes.

“Come the final whistle the mood was one of frustration that we were unable to get the victory.”

Whitstable Town travel to Hythe Town on Tuesday night, with Sam Denly’s side suffering a shock 7-2 defeat at Burgess Hill Town on the opening day.

“Hythe will no doubt be a tough tie.  I’m sure Sam will be wanting a reaction after the result they had against Burgess Hill,” added Blackman.

“I’m confident if we perform like we did on Saturday and are a little more ruthless and clinical in the final third then it should make for an entertaining evening’s football.”
