Whitstable Town boss Mark Lane makes double swoop
Thursday 11th November 2010
WHITSTABLE TOWN have unveiled two new signings tonight as they bid to climb out of the Ryman League Division One South relegation zone, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Oystermen suffered their ninth league defeat of the season last Tuesday, losing 2-0 away to Kent rivals Sittingbourne, and remain second-from-bottom in the table.
They have won only a couple of games in fourteen and are one point from safety, so manager Mark Lane has acted tonight to improve their chances of survival.
“I am delighted to announce that this evening I have signed two players on behalf of Mark, who both go straight into the squad for Saturday’s home game,” said Gary Johnson, the club’s vice-chairman and secretary, issuing a statement to www.kentishfootball.co.uk and www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.
T-J Moncur, 23, has joined the Kent club on loan as he regains his fitness ahead of a return to the Football League, while Sam Callandar, 20, has previously played for the club.
“TJ joins us on a temporary basis having last played for Chesterfield and looking to return to the Football League in the winter transfer period,” said Mr Johnson.
“Prior to this TJ played at Wycombe Wanderers (under Peter Taylor), Fulham, where he went out on loan with Bradford and Arsenal whom he played for between the age of 9 and 16. He has also played for England at under 16-17 and 18.
“Living in nearby Herne Bay, this east London boy has completed his Level 1 & 2 Coaching Badges and currently completing his Level 3/UEFA B badge under the stewardship of Kent County Football Association’s Alan Walker, the former Maidstone United joint-manager.
“His preferred position is central midfield, but whilst playing for Peter Taylor, he often played attacking right-back.”
Speaking about Callandar, Mr Johnson added: “You may recall Sam from his previous short time at the club whilst on loan from Ebbsfleet where he spent three years emerging from their PASE team.
“Sam has also played for John Still’s Dagenham & Redbridge and more latterly Faversham Town as he currently studies at Kent University in Canterbury.
“Sam’s preferred position is striker or wide on the wing.”
