Whitstable Town receive 20 applications for vacant manager's job
Friday 21st October 2011
WHITSTABLE TOWN confirm that they will unveil their new manager at the beginning of next month, writes Stephen McCartney.
Peter Nott handed in his resignation last Sunday, following a disastrous 3-0 at then basement side Crawley Down, leaving the Oystermen in eighteenth place in the Ryman League Division One South table, with three wins from their opening eleven games, three points clear of the relegation zone.
The club also exited from The FA Cup and FA Carlsberg Trophy at the first attempt, losing to Worthing and Thamesmead Town respectively.
Nott’s coaching staff, Steve Nolan and goalkeeping coach Paul Hyde, also resigned from their positions at Belmont Road.
“In the wake of Peter Nott’s departure, the club report a high number of applications are again being received,” said Gary Johnson, the club’s secretary and vice-chairman.
“Last year, prior to Nott’s appointment, the club received in excess of 50 applications. In the last week we have received almost 20 expressions of interest.”
Reserve team manager, Dave Fairclough, was handed the reins as caretaker manager and the former Canterbury City boss took charge of Whitstable’s second round Ryman League Cup tie against Chipstead in midweek.
Chipstead progressed to the next round, winning a penalty shoot-out 5-3, after the game finished goal-less after 90 minutes.
Fairclough told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk: “A gutsy team performance from all the lads. We wanted to do better in the final third, but that applied to both sides.
“But I thought we moved the ball about quite well at times and defensively we were strong. Overall I was very pleased with the performance.”
Fairclough takes charge of the trip to highflyers Bognor Regis Town (tomorrow) and then Whitehawk (29 October) before the club announce Nott’s replacement.
Further applications are invited, which will be reviewed on Monday, 31 October, and should be emailed to Gary Johnson at secretary@whitstabletownfc.co.uk
