Why should I want to resign? - Hessenthaler
Thursday 31st December 2009
ANDY Hessenthaler has spoken out at the rumours he had offered to resign after Dover Athletics 6-2 Blue Square South defeat at the Dripping Pan against Lewes on Boxing Day, writes Mike Green. Speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk this week, the Dover boss was adamant that he going nowhere!
He said: “I don’t know where that rumour’s come from, and if I’m honest I’m more than a little bit disappointed with that – there’s no way I’ll do that!”
Hessenthaler drew breath and then continued, “We’ve had two years of success and we’re successful this year despite the tough time that we’re having at the moment.
“Yes, in anyone’s book it was an unacceptable performance at Lewes but we’re a good club. I came here two and a bit years ago with a plan – that was a five year plan with the Chairman to get back to the Blue Square Premier (as its called now) and we’re ahead of that.”
A clearly irate Dover boss then turned to the rumours that had first surfaced on a fans forum over the weekend.
“Why should I want to resign?” Hessenthaler fumed. “I was disappointed as much as anyone at Lewes. And yes, the way we played completely embarrassed me – I was gutted to do what we did against them. But to think about resigning? You’ve just got to look at the way I played for this club when I came on against Chelmsford on Monday – I’m a fighter and a battler. I was out there and I will fight for this club and I’ll keep going – I love this club.”
“The Chairman and the club have given me a great opportunity – we’ve been successful for two years now and OK we’re having a bad time at the moment so why would I want to do that. I don’t know where it’s come from, I was as down as anyone I think that its just someone being mischievous to be honest!”
Hessenthaler’s side have a quick opportunity for revenge on Lewes as the two meet again at Crabble on New Years Day.
