Wilkins joins the Police

Sunday 21st June 2009
CRAIG WILKINS has left Ashford Town and has signed for their Ryman League Division One South rivals Metropolitan Police, writes Stephen McCartney.

Metropolitan Police were denied promotion last season, as a Simon Osborn free-kick sent Kent side Cray Wanderers into the Ryman Premier League for the very first time, with a 1-0 play-off final victory at Hayes Lane at the beginning of last month.

The versatile Wilkins, who can play at the heart of defence or as a striker, has played for numerous Kent clubs and was unveiled by Blues manager Jim Cooper yesterday.

“We have significantly strengthened our squad,” Cooper told www.metpolicefc.co.uk.

“Craig is a commanding player wherever he plays.  In recent years I can remember him playing for Dover in defence and then scoring against us last season for Ashford whilst playing up front.

“His versatility is an attraction, however he will add a winning attitude to the squad and I want players like that at the club.

“He’s a quality player, I have no doubt he will enjoy his time at Imber Court.”
