Yorath: We must start producing the goods
Wednesday 02nd September 2009
MARGATE boss Terry Yorath was very disappointed with his side’s performance against Cray Wanderers and pulled no punches with his honest assessment of their 1-0 home Bank Holiday Monday defeat.
Cray Wanderers picked up their seventh point of the season, courtesy of Tommy Tyne’s first goal for the club, but Margate’s fourth defeat of the season leaves the Hartsdown Park club in the bottom four in the Ryman Premier League table.
Yorath, who was speaking to www.margate-fc.com, demands a vast improvement from his side during Saturday’s trip to Ashford Town (Middlesex).
“From two games we won to two games that we lost, it doesn’t seem possibly really,” bemoaned the Welsh football legend.
“We played so well in the 3-0 win (at Aveley), and then played dire on Saturday in the first half and today (against Cray) I just couldn’t believe some of the things we were doing.
“The way we started off, I was quite happy - until the (Cray) goal and then the old faults come in; players go into their shells, they don’t want to express themselves.
“To be honest, it was only late on - where we got a few headers in - that we looked as if we might equalise.”
The search for new, better players is an ongoing situation, and Yorath added, “To be fair the chairman’s backed me with trying to bring players in, and now it’s time or me to produce and that’s what I’ll have to do.
“I think, for players in this league who earn, I think, good money, then at the moment they’re not giving that money’s worth.”
